Open Education at UTA

UTA students can search by cost of course materials in the schedule of classes. Use the instructions below to find courses in MyMav that use free or low-cost educational resources in place of high-cost commercial textbooks, access codes, and bundles. 

There are two ways to search in MyMav. Click on the links below to jump to the instructions.

Find Low Cost and No Cost Educational Materials Using Class Search and Enroll in MyMav

1. Login to your MyMav account from the UTA homepage using your NetID:

 


2. Once logged in, click on the "Manage Classes" tab to access the course catalog, and then click on the Class Search and Enroll tab.

Class Search and Enroll is a tab option in the left sidebar of Manage Classes.


3. From the search screen, search for your courses by keyword as you normally would.


4. On the Class Search Results page, scroll down to the bottom of the left sidebar to find the Class Attribute box. In this box, you can check the boxes to select either or both Low Cost Educational Materials or No Cost Educational Materials. Remember that:

  • Low Cost Educational Materials = Total cost for course resources is no more than $25 (per student)
  • No Cost Educational Materials = Total cost for course resources is $0 (per student)

The Class Attribute box in the left sidebar on the search results page includes checkboxes for Low Cost and No Cost Educational Materials.


 

5. Your selected filter will display at the top of the View Search Results page.

The View Search Results page lists the course attribute filters you selected.


6. Educational Materials Cost attributes are also listed under Enrollment Information box on the Class Information page for each course.

Find Low Cost and No Cost Educational Materials using the Classic Class Search in MyMav

1. Login to your MyMav account from the UTA homepage using your NetID:

 


2. Once logged in, click on the "Manage Classes" tab to access the course catalog, and then click on the Classic Class Search Only tab.


3. From the search screen in UTA's Schedule of Classes, open the Additional Search Criteria options using the green triangle toggle.


4. At the bottom of the screen, select "Educational Materials Cost" from the Course Attribute drop-down menu.
Select "Educational Materials Cost" under the "Course Attribute" dropdown menu.


5. Select "Low Cost" or "No Cost Educational Materials" from the Course Attribute Value drop-down menu. Remember that:

  • Low Cost Educational Materials = Total cost for course resources is no more than $25 (per student)
  • No Cost Educational Materials = Total cost for course resources is $0 (per student)

The "Course Attribute Value" dropdown menu has options for Low Cost Educational Materials or No Cost Educational Materials.


6. Your selected filter will display at the top of the Search Results page.

Your selected course attributes are listed at the top of the search results screen in MyMav.


7. Educational Materials Cost attributes are also listed in the Enrollment Information box on the Class Detail page for each course.

The course described on the Class Detail page lists Low Cost Educational Resources as an attribute under Enrollment Information.

Please note that MyMav will not return a list of courses with free and low-cost attributes if no additional search criteria are selected.

  • To browse a multidisciplinary list of courses tagged with the attributes, you must select either free or low cost from the Course Attribute Value drop-down menu.
  • To search for both attributes simultaneously, include a subject code in your search and do not select anything from the Course Attribute Value drop-down menu.
