About EndNote

EndNote LogoEndNote (Basic, X8, X9) is a citation management platform that allows you to collect and organize your references and to create bibliographies. You can manually enter citation data, or import it from other electronic resources such as the scholarly databases available through UTA Libraries. Using EndNote, you can create bibliographies within Microsoft Word or other word-processors. EndNote is able to format bibliographies in almost every conceivable bibliographic citation style, such as APA, Chicago Manual of Style, MLA, Turabian, Science and other journal-specific bibliographic citation styles.

EndNote Basic (formerly EndNote Web) is an online version of EndNote. Anyone can sign up for a free Basic account, but some features and functionality is limited. Fortunately for the UTA community, UTA Libraries subscribes to a premium version of EndNote Basic that removes many of the limitations in the free version. With EndNote Basic, it is possible to share libraries with other EndNote Basic users - making collaboration easy. 

Besides being free, the major advantage of EndNote Basic is that you can access your account from any computer that has an internet connection (as long as you can access the UTA Libraries' electronic resources). Many users like to try out EndNote Basic to see if it will meet their needs before they purchase the EndNote X8 or X9 desktop software. EndNote Basic syncs with EndNote desktop so that regardless of which you use, you'll always have the most up-to-date references in your collection. Many EndNote users find that Basic meets their needs and forego purchasing the desktop version.

At this time, UTA Libraries only offers training and support for EndNote Basic, not for the desktop version.
