Register for an ORCID iD and Connect It to Your UTA ID

Creating a profile on the ORCID website is straightforward and can be completed in a few simple steps. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

Steps to Create an ORCID Profile:

1. Visit the ORCID Website

  • Go to the ORCID Registration Page: Open your web browser and navigate to the ORCID registration page at https://orcid.org/register.

2. Fill Out the Registration Form

  • Enter Your Personal Information: You’ll need to provide your first name, last name, and email address.
  • Create a Password: Choose a strong password that meets ORCID’s security requirements.
  • Visibility Settings: Decide how you want your ORCID record to be displayed to others (public, limited, or private).
  • Accept the Terms and Conditions: Read through ORCID’s terms and conditions, and check the box to agree.

3. Verify Your Email Address

  • Check Your Email: ORCID will send a verification email to the address you provided during registration.
  • Click the Verification Link: Open the email and click the link to verify your email address and activate your ORCID account.

4. Sign In to Your ORCID Account

  • Return to ORCID: Go back to the ORCID website.
  • Log In: Use your UTA email and password to sign in to your new ORCID account.

5. Complete Your ORCID Profile

  • Add Personal Information: Update your profile with additional personal details such as other names you’ve published under, your biography, and keywords related to your work.
  • Add Employment and Education: Enter your current and previous employment history, as well as your educational background.
  • Include Funding and Works: Add information about your funding, grants, and a list of your publications and other research outputs. ORCID can automatically import these from other databases.

6. Adjust Your Privacy Settings

  • Control Visibility: You can set the visibility of each item on your profile (public, trusted parties, or private) to control who sees your information.
  • Authorize Trusted Organizations: Allow specific organizations to update your ORCID record on your behalf, which can streamline data entry for recurring collaborations or ongoing projects.

7. Connect Your ORCID iD

  • Use Your ORCID iD: Start using your ORCID iD in your academic and research activities, such as when submitting manuscripts or applying for grants.
  • Link to Other Systems: Connect your ORCID profile to other databases and platforms (like ResearcherID, Scopus Author ID, or university systems) to synchronize your information and ensure consistent attribution across systems.

8. Maintain and Update Your Profile

  • Regular Updates: Periodically update your ORCID profile with new publications, affiliations, and accomplishments to keep your information current.
  • Monitor Your Connections: Check which organizations and systems are linked to your ORCID profile to ensure they are accurate and beneficial.
