Locations

  • Central Library – the largest branch, home to most services and collections, and open late for study and research.

  • Architecture & Fine Arts Library (AFA) – located in the Architecture building, supporting art, architecture, music, and theater.

  • Science & Engineering Library (SEL) – located in the Nedderman Hall basement, with STEM-focused resources and study spaces.

About Research

UTA is recognized as a Carnegie R1 research university, meaning discovery and innovation are central to our mission. Whether you are pursuing a master’s thesis or a doctoral dissertation, research begins with the literature review—building scholarly habits of searching, evaluating, organizing, and writing. The Libraries provide expert guidance and tools to make that process smoother, so you can focus on developing your ideas and contributing new knowledge in your field.

Research Supports

Research at UTA takes many forms, and this subject guide is your starting point. The Libraries offer step-by-step tutorials, peer mentors, specialized labs, and data management support so you have help at every stage. Use the tabs at the top of this box to begin strategically: learn how to search databases, organize sources, analyze and preserve data, and prepare to share your work. These programs and tools are built to grow your skills and connect you with the right expertise when you need it.

Other Services & Departments

UTA Libraries is more than books. We offer:

  • Citation & Writing Help – one-on-one support for APA and other styles.

    • The library’s Writing Support services help you improve scholarly writing through one-on-one tutoring, discipline-specific workshops, and writing cohorts. Sessions focus on developing critical writing skills, addressing grammar and style concerns, and preparing for successful academic and professional writing projects. Quick Hits appointments are also available for targeted help with grammar, citations, and more.

  • Borrowing & Access Services – borrow, renew, recall, or request items from other libraries.

    • UTA Libraries provide access to books, technology, and multimedia items. Services include interlibrary loans, course reserves, and online renewal options, ensuring you have the resources you need to support your academic and research goals.

  • Study Spaces – from quiet carrels to collaborative rooms.

    • Graduate students and McNair Scholars can reserve private study carrels to focus on their work. These quiet spaces are ideal for in-depth research and writing.

  • Open Educational Resources (OER) & Digital Scholarship – affordable and adaptable teaching and learning materials.

    • The OER and Digital Scholarship Department at UTA Libraries supports affordable learning and sustainable scholarship. We help students and faculty find, create, and adapt free, openly licensed course materials—like textbooks, videos, and modules—that lower costs while maintaining quality. We also guide the campus through the digital research lifecycle, from preparing and publishing electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) to preserving articles, data, and creative projects in open repositories. Our goal is to make knowledge more accessible, adaptable, and impactful for the UTA community and beyond.

  • Creative Spaces & Services – including 3D printing, digital media production, and maker technology.

    • FabLab - The FabLab is a hands-on maker space for learners of all disciplines, offering tools and training in 3D and vinyl printing, textiles, glasswork, woodworking, ceramics, and more.

    • The Studios - The Studios are creative spaces for designing digital art and audio projects. Facilities include Motion Capture, photography and sound studios, poster printing, and collaborative areas. Knowledgeable staff and students provide consultations and support for your projects.

    • The Basement - The Basement is a gaming and relaxation space where students can unwind between classes. It offers table-top, console, and PC gaming, as well as opportunities to explore game development with assistance from experienced students.

Megan Zara, Open Educational Resources Librarian

Hello! I'm Megan Zara, your HEALOS Liaison Librarian and OER Librarian. As someone who spent 10 years in the K-12 trenches—teaching middle school English, developing curriculum, and supporting technology integration across Frisco and Fort Worth ISDs—I understand the real-world challenges and opportunities in education.

My background as a Digital Learning Specialist means I've helped countless teachers and administrators implement meaningful technology solutions in their classrooms and schools. With a master's in Literacy and Learning and experience teaching disciplinary literacy to pre-service teachers at Texas Woman's University, I bring both practical experience and academic understanding to my role.

I'm here to support all aspects of your academic work—from research consultations and literature reviews to finding course materials and exploring open education resources. Whether you're conducting dissertation research, developing course content, exploring adult learning theories, or advancing educational leadership practices, I'm here to help you succeed.

Behind every resource is a person (me!) ready to chat about education, research strategies, or innovative teaching practices. Drop by my office, schedule a consultation, or send me an email anytime.
