Meet Max and his partner Steve Burn. Max was rescued from the Arlington Animal Services Center, December 2009. He is a mixed breed and according to a DNA test is part Chow Chow, Chihuahua, German Shepherd, Great Dane, Bull Terrier & Poodle. Max’s credentials include an AKC (American Kennel Club) Canine Good Citizen certificate, and both he and Steve are registered with Pet Partners. In addition, Max is also an AKC-registered Therapy Dog.
Max and Steve have been visiting rehabilitation, assisted living and retirement centers in the Mansfield/South Arlington area since December 2010. Steve and Max enjoy doing this because they both like seeing how retirees and assisted living patrons light up when Max enters the facility. They provide an opportunity for the patrons to engage with Max first hand and are able to witness the magic that happens. It provides joy to all involved in the encounters.
Steve & Max are also registered in the R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistant Dogs) program. This is a program where you bring your animals and let them participate in reading exercises for children. The Children’s R.E.A.D. program in schools and libraries helps the children read with confidence to a patient, listening ear that loves to be petted during this activity.
