Gaps can be identified using three main methods:
Keyword Co-occurrence Analysis:
This method analyzes when two or more keywords frequently occur together, indicating a relationship between those topics. This helps to identify common themes and trends in a research field.
Burst Detection:
The burst detection functionality identifies and highlights references, keywords, or citations that experience a sudden increase in citations or usage within a short time frame. This typically signals emerging trends or hot topics in a field, as these items receive a sudden surge of attention.
Document Co-citation Analysis:
Document Co-citation analysis looks at how often two papers are cited together in later research. If two documents are frequently co-cited, it indicates that they are closely related in terms of content and can help map intellectual connections within a discipline.
