The NIH is a leader in the open data space and provides a number of resources to assist researchers in locating appropriate repositories for research data storage. A best practice for researchers looking to deposit their research data is to prioritize discipline-specific repositories. For example, if a researcher has brain imaging data, that data should be deposited into a repository that specializes in imaging data, such as OpenNeuro.
