students conducting a candlelight vigil

A candlelight vigil was held on April 10, 1981 at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) commemorating the 23 young Black people slain in Atlanta, Georgia. The vigil, sponsored by the Black Students Union, was conducted outside the UTA library. A small oak tree was planted in the victims' memory at Cooper Street and Campus Drive, as participants sang "Reach Out and Touch Somebody's Hand" and "We Shall Overcome." April 10, 1941.
